The King’s Birthday Party
Trooping the Colour: A Royal Tradition Like No Other
For over 260 years, Trooping the Colour has marked the official birthday of the British Sovereign. Though its origins date back to the 17th century during King Charles II’s reign, it was in the 18th century that it became the official birthday celebration of the monarch.
In 2025, Number 7 Company Coldstream Guards will Troop their Colour in the presence of His Majesty The King on Saturday 14th June 2025. Taking part will be over 1350 soldiers of the Household Division and King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, including over 300 musicians from the Massed Bands. It’s a stunning display of tradition, pageantry, and precision.
Why does the King have two birthdays?
King Charles III celebrates both a real and an official birthday each year. His actual birthday is on 14 November, but like monarchs before him, his official birthday is celebrated in June with the Trooping the Colour.
This year, His Majesty has continued his work championing sustainability, interfaith dialogue, and youth empowerment. He recently led a major Commonwealth climate initiative, and his engagements have reflected his lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship and service. Despite recent challenges, King Charles remains a steady and respected presence at home and abroad.
